#RockMyTBR 2017 March Recap

#RockMyTBR (link) is a reading challenge hosted by Sarah K., The YA Book Traveler. Basically, the challenge is to read books that you already own that were published before the beginning of the year. I love this challenge. Even though I didn’t complete it last year, it was still fun to participate in and see what others were reading. Here’s my intro post for this year.

So how did I do in the month of March?

Altogether I read nine books in March, and ONE of them were for #RockMyTBR.

Yikes! It has been a while! Anyways, here are five recent things that have brought a smile to my face or that I’ve found interesting.

  1. How could I not start this off with MY PLANTS? It is springtime, pretty much (although I missed winter, somehow….*side-eyes Texas weather*). So my garden is started, and of course it’s a continual work in progress. While I plan on blogging more about it soon, the best place to find quick updates is my Instagram.
  2. It’s SPRING BREAK BABY!
  3. I’ve been playing the Fire Emblem Heroes app. While it’s definitely limited in relation to the actual games, it’s a somewhat-fun way to pass a little time on my phone.
  4. I’ve been trying to pick up on my writing again. It’s going alright so far. I’m experimenting with this particular project in which I just write, no planning and no plotting, because I seem to get stuck there and never actually move on. So I’m pantsing it.
  5. I’ve been enjoying listening to music lately. Sometimes I go through long stretches of time where I don’t listen to anything at all, but I’ve really been enjoying my headphones lately 😉

So, what are some things that have brought a smile to your face lately?

Are you ready for this week’s recap of things that made me happy!? I sure hope so…

  1. Popcorn. I could eat popcorn any time, I love it, and I admit to indulging A LOT this week.
  2. Music. I don’t often listen to the radio (not much time spent in the car), and if I listen to my phone it’s usually music I know I like. But sometimes I just don’t want to hear anything. Then, suddenly I want to hear all the things, which results in a great appreciation of being able to listen to a wide variety of songs and let loose a little.
  3. Sprouts! I have sprouts in my winter sowing containers!Marigold sprouts in winter sowing container
  4. Early Valentine presents. My husband and I are as bad as kids when it comes to trying to wait for a holiday to give gifts. This year, I received this awesome bookish necklace and a gift card for my kindle! necklace
  5. Honestly I don’t have a specific thing for #5, but things have just been good lately, and that makes me happy 🙂

This Week’s Five!!!

ThisWeeksFiveBanner

Alright, this post encompasses more than the past week, but here we go! Five things that made me happy or I found interesting lately:

  1. Seeing the Women’s Marches. Wow, what a bautiful movement whose momentum we can’t allow to be lost.
  2. YAKFest – Young Adult Keller Book Festival — this was my second time attending, and it was a blast! Post coming soon.
  3. Starting something new – As the little one’s induction to the public school system draws closer *sobs*, that means I’m looking at my future, too. Right now the plan is to get my alternative certification to teach secondary Enlish Language Arts. For now though, I’ve begun substitute teaching.
  4. Books on sale – there have been some really interesting looking books on sale lately.
  5. Fire Emblem Heroes on mobile! I’m a huge fan of the series, and it’s fun to have part of it on my phone. I’m super looking forward to the one for the Nintendo Switch, because we really enjoy playing games together and watching each other play games. That’s really hard to do on the DS.

What’s something that’s brought you happiness lately?

I love this challenge. Even though I didn’t complete it last year, it was still fun to participate in and see what others were reading. Here’s my intro post for this year.

So how did I do in the month of January?

Well, I started out with a BANG! let me tell you…but none of the four books I read in January were for this challenge. I got caught up in trying to read books for YAKFest (and then I was too sick to read), so looks like I’ll just have to try harder!

Are you participating in this or any other reading challenges? How are you doing?
