Grace Mallory is tired of hiding. She hungers for a normal life, perhaps even a suitor like two of her friends in Harper’s Station have found. But when the man she believes responsible for her father’s death discovers her whereabouts, survival takes priority.

Amos Bledsoe prefers bicycles to horses and private conversations over the telegraph wire to social gatherings with young ladies who see him as nothing more than an oddity. His fellow telegrapher, the mysterious Miss G, has been the ideal companion. For months, their friendship—dare he believe, courtship?—over the wire has fed his hope that he has finally found the woman God intends for him. However, when he intercepts an ominous message and discovers her life is in peril, Amos must shed the cocoon of his quiet nature to become the hero Grace requires.

review

The ladies of Harper’s Station have done it again! You can see my review for the first novel in the series here.

I was pulled in to Grace’s story from the start. The danger and urgency of her situation set the pace for the book. It was gripping, enticing, but not so quick-paced that the characters were left unexplored. Indeed, there’s a whole cast of secondary characters worthy of notice.

Oh, and did someone say romance? Of course they did! Grace and Amos are well-matched, and I love how they could communicate only with each other when other people were around.

I like the way Witemeyer works religion into her books. It is not preachy, doesn’t slap the reader in the face, but instead is a natural part of the characters and their lives.

Heart on the Line is a story about friendship, community, healing, and ultimately–hope.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to review this book.

*I received a NetGalley ARC in exchange for an honest review.
